The Dangers of Expired Cosmetics: What You Need to Know

1. Skin Irritations and Infections

Using makeup that has passed its expiration date can lead to skin irritations, redness, and itching. The ingredients in expired products may no longer be stable, causing adverse reactions on your skin. Bacterial growth is also a concern, especially if the product has been open for a while.

2. Clogged Pores and Breakouts

Expired makeup can clog your pores, leading to breakouts. Bacteria thrive in warm, moist environments, and old cosmetics can become breeding grounds. If you notice sudden acne or skin eruptions, it might be time to check your makeup stash.

3. Colour Changes

Over time, some makeup products, particularly foundations, can change colour due to oxidation. If your favourite foundation starts looking slightly off or more orange than usual, it could be expired.

4. Mold Growth

Moisture accumulates inside cosmetic containers, creating an ideal environment for mold growth. Mold can trigger skin irritations and breakouts. Be cautious, especially with cream-based products.

5. Changes to smell and colour

If a product smells odd or look different from when you first bought it, discard it.
